Particle Size Matters

Particle size distribution (PSD) is an essential element of a catalyst strategy that establishes overall unit fluidization and performance. Through our classification process we can target specific PSD parameters that normal, or emergency, unit operations require.

Classification Benefits

Our Optimized Fines are used for rapid response to temporary fluidization issues as well as routine supply for ongoing unit PSD requirements at a fraction of the cost of fresh catalyst solutions.

Improve Unit Fluidization

Enhance current unit performance with a selective PSD strategy that supports a micron balance that is right for your unit.

Improve Catalyst Retention

Tailoring the PSD of catalyst to a unit's specific requirements helps to reduce overall catalyst losses caused by equipment inefficiencies.

Reduce Catalyst Additions

Improving catalyst retention in the unit helps to reduce total catalyst additions required to maintain desired operating conditions.

Reduce Catalyst Costs

By reducing overall catalyst losses and fresh catalyst additions refiners benefit from a substantial cost savings while simultaneously experiencing improved unit performance and economics.

Classification Strategies

There are three main strategies for optimizing catalyst PSD to enhance unit performance.

We can provide equilibrium catalyst tailored to meet the specific PSD requirements of your unit. The catalyst can be delivered directly to the refinery or blended with fresh catalyst prior to shipment to bypass any loader limitations at the refinery. Supplementing current fresh catalyst additions with our Optimized Fines options have helped to reduce total catalyst costs for refiners around the globe.

Units with low catalyst turnover and severe regenerator operation can send us their unit catalyst for classification for a cost effective method for controlling fluidization. We receive the catalyst at our facility and return the specific PSD to the refinery at their request; either alone or blended with fresh or equilibrium catalysts for a complete solution.

Units that experience higher than normal catalyst losses or have equipment inefficiencies that effect specific particle size ranges benefit greatly from the classification of their fresh catalyst. We work with all major manufactures to optimize the PSD of your current fresh catalyst supply. This strategy often has operational benefits outside of fluidization optimization as downstream and auxiliary equipment no longer have high levels of fines to deal with.
